I'm a dad building a home lab with my teenage son, in a 9U wall cabinet in a cupboard.

I've been coding for 30-odd years; he's learning by building. Our plan runs from a Pi-hole on a Raspberry Pi from 2012 all the way to a firewall, a small Kubernetes cluster, Minecraft for his friends, a VPN, and cameras that don't phone home.

I write about what we tried, what broke and what we'd do differently. I don't publish our addresses, network details or anything that would help someone get into the house. That bit stays with us.
